If you’re considering selling your house, you’re probably thinking about renovations. Because most buyers focus on the kitchen and the bathrooms more than any other rooms, this is where you should begin.

Even if you are not selling the house, sprucing up the kitchen and bathrooms will make your house feel and look better.

You don’t have to do a major kitchen or bathroom renovation to make either room appeal to buyers. When they walk into the kitchen and bathrooms, what immediately meets the eye will have the greatest impact. Ask (and answer) the following questions:

  1. Is your backsplash dingy? On the market today are easy, do-it-yourself panels that can be placed over your existing backsplash for a fresh, clean look.
  2. Is the grout in your tile yellowed or dirty?
Clean the grout, or if necessary, freshen it up with a new application. Dirty-looking grout turns buyers off fast.
  3. How do your cabinets look?
You don’t need to spend a fortune to make them more appealing. Simply stain or paint them for a brand new look that will make your entire kitchen shine.
  4. Look down. How’s the floor?
Replacing a bathroom floor doesn’t take near the time or money a kitchen floor does. If your bathroom floor has cracked, broken, or outdated tile, consider replacing it with a peel and press faux tile floor. It’s easy to install, reasonably priced, and looks terrific.
  5. Should you change your faucets?
It’s amazing what stylish, new faucets will do for the overall look of a small room like a bathroom. They don’t have to cost a crazy amount of money either!
  6. What condition are the walls?
Obviously, you want your walls to be free of dirt, holes, and scuff marks, but what about the color? If your walls are very bold or, conversely, a baby pastel, consider repainting. Buyers respond to colors that they can see themselves living with, and if the first thought that comes to mind is “I have to repaint every room,” you might lose a sale.

Combine the ideas above with clutter-free counters and shelves to give your kitchen and bathrooms appeal that will help you sell your home for more money. After you tackle these rooms, you can begin focusing on other areas of your home.
