Weekday mornings are hectic, especially when the kids are trying to get out the door at the same time as Mom and Dad. Don't neglect breakfast, no matter how busy everyone is.

This first meal of the day is usually considered important. It fuels ymost of us for the day to come, provides energy, and might keep you from snacking later in the morning on less healthful foods.

Plus, just about veryone feels better with a decent breakfast -- better able to face the day.

Here are a few simple breakfasts for anyone -- kids or parents -- on the go!

Bagel with a Smear!
Toast up whole wheat or cinnamon-raisin bagels, which are a little better for you than plain bagels. Instead of smearing the bagel with cream cheese, use a tablespoon or so of peanut butter topped with sliced bananas.

You can eat this at home or carry it on the bus or in the car. Not only is this delicious, it's packed with energy and plenty of protein, calcium, and potassium.

Cereal in A Box
Individual serving-sized boxes of cereal are great for anyone on the go. Select fortified corn flakes or whole-grain cereals for good nutritional value.

If you're at home, open the box carefully and add milk and fruit. Or better, use a bowl. If you're on the go, open the box, add fruit and yogurt and take along a spoon. Either way, you'll get fiber, fruit, and calcium.

Instant Breakfasts
Smoothies, poured into travel mugs, are great morning meals.

If you're well organized, make a fruit smoothie the night before and store it in an airtight container. Otherwise, whip it up in the morning and carry it with you.

Packed with yogurt, fruit, a little honey or juice, and maybe even protein powder, these also pack an energy and nutritional punch.

Instant oatmeal is another easy and healthful way to start the day. Heat it up in the microwave, add some sliced fruit and low-fat milk, and it's ready! Pack the oatmeal in a small thermos bowl or similar container and take it with you.

You can also combine the oatmeal, fruit, and milk in a microwave-safe container and zap it in the office microwave.

When all else fails, you can never go wrong with small cartons of yogurt. This near-perfect food is full of calcium, vitamins, and minerals. Add some granola or fortified cereal for even more of a nutrition boost!

Kids like frozen waffles, but too often the store-bought varieties are not too nutritious. For moms and dads who plan ahead, here's a great idea: make waffles and pancakes with whole wheat flour and then freeze them, individually wrapped in plastic or wax paper.

Zap them in the microwave, spread with a little fruit and you're off!
